Where the Ganga flows, the Himalayas watch, and 5,000 years of yoga tradition lives again in sacred daily practice.
We envision a traditional yoga ashram in Rishikesh by 2030 — a living sanctuary with a Gau Shala, organic gardens, and the warmth of community for up to 100 participants at once. This is our most sacred vision, and we invite you to be part of it.
For fifteen years, SKM Yoga has served students across India, the UAE, and Vietnam from our base in Noida. We have trained over 1 lakh students, produced 500+ certified yoga teachers, and built a community that spans the world. And through all of it, one vision has grown clearer with each passing year.
A traditional yoga ashram in Rishikesh — the world's yoga capital, where the Ganga descends from the Himalayas and the very land carries the accumulated vibration of countless seekers across thousands of years. A place where yoga is not a class or a subscription, but a complete way of life.
Our ashram vision is rooted in the ancient model of the Indian gurukul — a community of learning and living where students, teachers, nature, and practice are woven into a single unbroken fabric of daily life. With a Gau Shala (cow sanctuary), organic gardens, a full residential kitchen, traditional yoga halls, and space for 100 participants simultaneously, this will be a destination for genuine transformation.
A complete gurukul community in the foothills of the Himalayas — designed for deep immersion, authentic practice, and genuine transformation across body, mind, and spirit.
A complete traditional ashram ecosystem — designed not just as a facility but as a living community where every element supports the deepening of practice and the transformation of the whole person.
Purpose-built traditional yoga practice halls with natural materials, proper ventilation, and the acoustic quality that allows the body and mind to settle deeply into practice. Designed for group sessions, private practice, and ceremonial gatherings.
A traditional Gau Shala housing indigenous Indian cow breeds whose presence has been understood for millennia to elevate the spiritual environment of a sacred space. Pure organic milk, ghee, and the living energy of the Gau Mata will be central to ashram life.
Extensive organic gardens growing the fresh vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants that will feed the ashram community and supply the kitchen. Students will participate in garden work as a part of their karma yoga practice and connection to the earth.
Traditional simple, clean residential spaces for up to 100 participants simultaneously — from private rooms for individual retreat students to shared dormitory spaces for TTC cohorts. All designed to support rest, contemplation, and community.
A full-service sattvic kitchen serving traditional Indian plant-based meals three times daily, prepared with organic ingredients from the ashram farm and guided by the principles of Ayurvedic nutrition. Food as medicine, prepared with love and intention.
A dedicated library housing classical yoga texts, philosophy books, and a rich collection of traditional and contemporary yoga scholarship — supporting the intellectual and philosophical dimension of ashram study alongside physical and energetic practice.
Access to the Ganga and facilitation of traditional dawn bathing, sandhya rituals, and the sacred practices that connect participants to the living spiritual tradition of Rishikesh and the timeless wisdom of Vedic daily life.
A dedicated space for traditional fire ceremonies (havan), communal prayer, mantra practice, and kirtan — the devotional and ceremonial dimensions of yoga practice that complete the physical, energetic, and philosophical training.
A dedicated therapeutic yoga facility offering individually designed programmes for physical rehabilitation, chronic disease management, mental health support, and holistic wellness under the supervision of our PhD-qualified faculty.
In the yogic and Vedic tradition, the cow is not merely an animal — she is Gau Mata, a living embodiment of abundance, nourishment, and spiritual purity. The presence of a Gau Shala at the heart of our ashram is not incidental; it is foundational to our vision of authentic yogic living.
The daily rhythms of the Gau Shala — the morning milking, the gentle bells of the cows returning from grazing, the preparation of ghee and paneer in the ashram kitchen — will be woven into the lived experience of every participant, connecting them to rhythms of care, abundance, and reverence for life that the modern world has largely forgotten.
Caring for the cows will be available as a karma yoga practice for participants who wish to deepen their experience of selfless service — one of the four great paths of yoga — in the most direct and embodied way possible.
"Where the cow is honoured, the land is blessed. Where the land is blessed, the practice deepens. We build this Gau Shala not as a feature but as the living heart of everything we are creating in Rishikesh."
Dr. Shivam Mishra, Founder — SKM YogaThe ashram will accommodate up to 100 participants simultaneously across three distinct living environments, each designed to support a specific depth and type of immersive experience.
Serene private rooms for individuals seeking personal retreat, deep rest, or one-on-one therapeutic work with the ashram faculty. Each room opens toward natural views with access to the garden and Himalayan air.
Traditional cottage-style shared accommodation for Teacher Training Certificate students. Living in community with fellow trainees deepens the learning experience and builds the bonds of genuine Sangha that last a lifetime.
Traditional ashram-style dormitory accommodation for groups, workshop participants, and those seeking the full communal immersion experience at an accessible investment. The heart of ashram community life.
Every great ashram begins with a vision and a community willing to believe in it. Here is our committed timeline from dream to living reality.
Fifteen years of building SKM Yoga into one of India's most respected yoga institutions. Training 1 lakh+ students, producing 500+ certified teachers, establishing global reach through Dubai and Vietnam operations. This foundation is the bedrock on which the ashram will stand.
Foundation CompleteThe official launch of SKM Yoga's ashram vision to our global community. Opening membership programs, inviting donors, and building the financial foundation required to acquire land in Rishikesh and begin design work. This is the moment we are in right now — and your support determines how quickly we move.
Active NowIdentification and acquisition of the appropriate land in the greater Rishikesh area. Engagement of architects who specialize in traditional Indian sacred architecture to design a space that is both functionally excellent and spiritually resonant. Final planning permissions and groundbreaking ceremony.
Construction of the core residential and practice facilities begins. The Gau Shala, organic gardens, and primary yoga halls are the first priority — establishing the living heart of the ashram before the accommodation and support infrastructure is completed.
Construction of the residential facilities, sattvic community kitchen, library, therapy centre, havan kund, and all support infrastructure. Ongoing Gau Shala and garden development. Soft opening for founding members and long-term retreat students.
A full year of trial operations hosting smaller cohorts, running the first residential TTC programs, and refining every dimension of ashram life based on direct community feedback. Every system, from the kitchen to the daily schedule to the Gau Shala routines, is tested and perfected.
The formal opening of SKM Yoga Ashram Rishikesh to its full community of 100 participants. The beginning of a permanent, living institution that will serve practitioners, teachers, and seekers from India and across the world for generations to come. The dream becomes reality.

"For fifteen years, I have taught yoga in rooms, studios, and homes across India and the world. And in each of those spaces, I have felt the same longing — for a place where yoga is not something you do for an hour and then leave, but something you live, breathe, and become.
That place is the ashram we are building in Rishikesh. It is the home that this tradition deserves — and the gift I most want to give to everyone who has trusted SKM Yoga with their practice, their health, and their transformation.
If you believe in what yoga can do for a human being, in what a genuine ashram can do for a community, in what this vision can do for the world — please join us. Be part of the dream."
Every great ashram in India began with a vision and a community willing to believe before there was anything to see. The Rishikesh ashram begins with you.
