Our Dream
Ashram
Awaits

Where the Ganga flows, the Himalayas watch, and 5,000 years of yoga tradition lives again in sacred daily practice.

We envision a traditional yoga ashram in Rishikesh by 2030 — a living sanctuary with a Gau Shala, organic gardens, and the warmth of community for up to 100 participants at once. This is our most sacred vision, and we invite you to be part of it.

The Dream

A Sacred Space for Authentic Yoga & Inner Transformation

For fifteen years, SKM Yoga has served students across India, the UAE, and Vietnam from our base in Noida. We have trained over 1 lakh students, produced 500+ certified yoga teachers, and built a community that spans the world. And through all of it, one vision has grown clearer with each passing year.

A traditional yoga ashram in Rishikesh — the world's yoga capital, where the Ganga descends from the Himalayas and the very land carries the accumulated vibration of countless seekers across thousands of years. A place where yoga is not a class or a subscription, but a complete way of life.

Our ashram vision is rooted in the ancient model of the Indian gurukul — a community of learning and living where students, teachers, nature, and practice are woven into a single unbroken fabric of daily life. With a Gau Shala (cow sanctuary), organic gardens, a full residential kitchen, traditional yoga halls, and space for 100 participants simultaneously, this will be a destination for genuine transformation.

What We Are Building

Every Element of the Ashram Vision

A complete traditional ashram ecosystem — designed not just as a facility but as a living community where every element supports the deepening of practice and the transformation of the whole person.

Sacred Yoga Halls

Purpose-built traditional yoga practice halls with natural materials, proper ventilation, and the acoustic quality that allows the body and mind to settle deeply into practice. Designed for group sessions, private practice, and ceremonial gatherings.

Gau Shala — Cow Sanctuary

A traditional Gau Shala housing indigenous Indian cow breeds whose presence has been understood for millennia to elevate the spiritual environment of a sacred space. Pure organic milk, ghee, and the living energy of the Gau Mata will be central to ashram life.

Organic Gardens and Farm

Extensive organic gardens growing the fresh vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants that will feed the ashram community and supply the kitchen. Students will participate in garden work as a part of their karma yoga practice and connection to the earth.

Residential Accommodations

Traditional simple, clean residential spaces for up to 100 participants simultaneously — from private rooms for individual retreat students to shared dormitory spaces for TTC cohorts. All designed to support rest, contemplation, and community.

Sattvic Community Kitchen

A full-service sattvic kitchen serving traditional Indian plant-based meals three times daily, prepared with organic ingredients from the ashram farm and guided by the principles of Ayurvedic nutrition. Food as medicine, prepared with love and intention.

Library and Study Centre

A dedicated library housing classical yoga texts, philosophy books, and a rich collection of traditional and contemporary yoga scholarship — supporting the intellectual and philosophical dimension of ashram study alongside physical and energetic practice.

Sacred Bathing and Rituals

Access to the Ganga and facilitation of traditional dawn bathing, sandhya rituals, and the sacred practices that connect participants to the living spiritual tradition of Rishikesh and the timeless wisdom of Vedic daily life.

Havan Kund and Prayer Hall

A dedicated space for traditional fire ceremonies (havan), communal prayer, mantra practice, and kirtan — the devotional and ceremonial dimensions of yoga practice that complete the physical, energetic, and philosophical training.

Yoga Therapy Centre

A dedicated therapeutic yoga facility offering individually designed programmes for physical rehabilitation, chronic disease management, mental health support, and holistic wellness under the supervision of our PhD-qualified faculty.

The Sacred Heart of the Ashram

The Gau Shala — Where Ancient Wisdom Meets Living Practice

In the yogic and Vedic tradition, the cow is not merely an animal — she is Gau Mata, a living embodiment of abundance, nourishment, and spiritual purity. The presence of a Gau Shala at the heart of our ashram is not incidental; it is foundational to our vision of authentic yogic living.

The daily rhythms of the Gau Shala — the morning milking, the gentle bells of the cows returning from grazing, the preparation of ghee and paneer in the ashram kitchen — will be woven into the lived experience of every participant, connecting them to rhythms of care, abundance, and reverence for life that the modern world has largely forgotten.

Caring for the cows will be available as a karma yoga practice for participants who wish to deepen their experience of selfless service — one of the four great paths of yoga — in the most direct and embodied way possible.

Indigenous Indian BreedsGir, Sahiwal, and Tharparkar varieties, chosen for their gentleness and the quality of their milk and spiritual presence
Organic PanchagavyaTraditional products from the five gifts of the cow will be prepared and used in ashram rituals, cuisine, and wellness treatments
Lifetime Care GuaranteeEvery cow in the Gau Shala will be guaranteed a lifetime of care, love, and dignity — regardless of her productivity
Biogas and CompostCow dung will power the ashram's biogas kitchen and enrich the organic gardens, creating a complete sacred closed cycle of life

"Where the cow is honoured, the land is blessed. Where the land is blessed, the practice deepens. We build this Gau Shala not as a feature but as the living heart of everything we are creating in Rishikesh."

"For fifteen years, I have taught yoga in rooms, studios, and homes across India and the world. And in each of those spaces, I have felt the same longing — for a place where yoga is not something you do for an hour and then leave, but something you live, breathe, and become.

That place is the ashram we are building in Rishikesh. It is the home that this tradition deserves — and the gift I most want to give to everyone who has trusted SKM Yoga with their practice, their health, and their transformation.

If you believe in what yoga can do for a human being, in what a genuine ashram can do for a community, in what this vision can do for the world — please join us. Be part of the dream."

Common Questions

Ashram Vision FAQs

Why Rishikesh specifically for the ashram?

Rishikesh is where the Ganga descends from the Himalayas and has been a centre of yogic learning and spiritual practice for thousands of years. The land itself carries an accumulated vibration of practice and prayer that is unique in the world. For an ashram dedicated to authentic yoga, Rishikesh is not simply a beautiful location — it is the most appropriate home for a living yoga tradition.

How are donations used?

Every donation to the SKM Yoga Ashram goes directly to the ashram development fund. Priorities in the current phase are land acquisition in Rishikesh, architectural design, legal structuring of the ashram trust, and community development. Full transparency on fund utilization will be provided to all members and donors through regular updates.

What is the difference between membership and donation?

Membership is a structured commitment with specific benefits including ashram stay access, program discounts, priority booking, and recognition. Donations are open-hearted contributions of any amount with no specific benefit structure beyond our deep gratitude, donor register recognition, and the merit of supporting sacred work. Both are equally valued and vital to making the ashram possible.

Can international donors and members join?

Absolutely. SKM Yoga's community spans India, the UAE, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and many other countries. International members and donors are warmly welcomed. Contact us via WhatsApp and we will arrange the appropriate transfer method, documentation, and acknowledgement for your contribution from wherever you are in the world.

What will my membership provide access to once the ashram opens?

Members will receive complimentary ashram stays according to their membership tier, access to all ashram programs at founding member rates, priority booking for retreats and teacher training programs, and the ongoing benefits of being a recognised part of the SKM Yoga founding community. Lifetime and long-term members will retain their benefits in perpetuity.

Why is the Gau Shala so central to the vision?

In the Vedic and yogic tradition, the cow is Gau Mata — a living embodiment of abundance, purity, and spiritual elevation. The presence of the Gau Shala creates a living, breathing connection to the agricultural and spiritual roots of yoga that cannot be replicated in any other way. The daily rhythms of the Gau Shala — milking, grazing, caring — become a karma yoga practice that grounds the ashram community in the most fundamental forms of loving service.

How can I stay updated on the ashram's progress?

All members and donors receive regular progress updates. You can also follow SKM Yoga on social media and stay connected through our newsletter. WhatsApp us to be added to our ashram vision update group where we share the journey in real time with the founding community.

Is the ashram open to people of all backgrounds and faiths?

Completely. Yoga is a universal practice and the SKM Yoga Ashram will welcome practitioners from all backgrounds, nationalities, faiths, and walks of life. While the ashram will be rooted in the authentic Indian yoga tradition, its doors will be open to every sincere seeker regardless of their background or prior yoga experience.
